    It is very important that you only use the versions of Messenger provided above and not upgrade them to later versions. If you currently have a later version installed, please remove and re-install one of the versions above.

    Stage 3: Configure Microsoft Windows Messenger for SIP

    To configure the Microsoft Windows Messenger® client to use SIP and connect to an external SIP server:

    • Open the Microsoft Messenger client from the start menu or double click the Messenger icon on the taskbar.
    • From the top menu, click Tools then Options.
    • Select the Accounts tab.
    • Select the Communications Service.
    • In the Sign in name: box, enter your SIP address (for example: [username]@voip.brujula.net).
    • Click Advanced.
    • Select Configure settings.
    • Enter the SIP server name as voip.brujula.net
    • Select UDP under Connect using.
    • Click OK.
    • Click OK to close the Options menu.

    Log out and in again so that the changes take effect. Select Sign Out / Sign In from the File menu.

    Stage 4: Testing

    Start Windows Messenger and login. (Your sign in name should be [username]@voip.brujula.net)

    • In Windows Messenger®, select Tools then Add a contact.
    • .
    • Check By e-mail address or sign-in name then Next.
    • In the next window, enter a known SIP address then on the next window click Finish.
    • You will then find this contact has been added to your Contacts list within Windows Messenger.

    To call a SIP address:

    A green Messenger icon means that your contacts are online; a red icon means that the contact is offline. Right-click on a contact to start a voice or video conversation. Some SIP client, such as SIP phones, cannot show presence, to call such a SIP Address:

    • Open Microsoft Windows Messenger®.
    • Select Actions - Start a Voice Conversation.
    • Click the Other tab.
    • Enter a SIP address under Enter e-mail address (Example: 8703407000@voip.brujula.net).
    • Choose Communications Service under Service.
    • ClickOK.

    To make a telephone call:

    • Open Microsoft Windows Messenger®.
    • Select Actions - Start a Voice Conversation.
    • Click the Other tab.
    • Enter 222613 (no spaces) under Enter e-mail address (Example: dials an echo test answering machine).
    • Choose Communications Service under Service.
    • Click OK.

    TIP - Do not include any spaces in a telephone number when making a call. A space is a character and not a 'gap'.
